A geothermal river in the UNESCO World Heritage wilderness of the Shiretoko Peninsula in northeastern Hokkaido. The entire Kamuiwakka River is heated by the active volcano Mount Io above it. Visitors wade up the riverbed itself through a series of natural waterfall pools that grow warmer as you climb.
