Hot springs in Furofushi

A seaside hot spring resort on a rocky cape in Fukaura, Aomori Prefecture, where open-air pools sit directly above the waves of the Sea of Japan. The water is a distinctive dark reddish-brown, rich in iron and sodium chloride. The resort's signature outdoor bath and a separate women's pool flow with 100% undiluted natural spring water. The sunsets here are exceptional. Overnight guests have exclusive access after late afternoon when day visitors leave.
