About this spring
Cisolok is the only natural geyser hot spring in Indonesia, set along a boulder-strewn river near the surf coast at Pelabuhan Ratu within the Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu UNESCO Global Geopark. High-pressure geothermal water spurts several metres into the air from vents in the riverbed, then cools as it cascades into the river, creating warm natural pools where visitors can sit. The setting mixes oceanic air, rushing river sounds, and volcanic mineral steam.
Highlights
History
Unlike most Indonesian hot springs, which sit high on volcanic peaks, Cisolok formed along a coastal fault line near the surf town of Pelabuhan Ratu, and local Sundanese communities have regarded its erupting riverbed as a sacred, curative place for generations.
The geysers were later recognised as a rare geological feature and protected as a public recreation and geoscience site. In 2018 the surrounding Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu area was designated a UNESCO Global Geopark, formalising the region's status and drawing wider attention to one of the only natural geyser fields in the country.
Local guide
Cisolok is unlike any other soak in this directory: instead of built pools you come to a boulder-strewn river where geysers spurt boiling water several metres into the air, and you bathe in the warm channels downstream where that water mixes with the cool current. Drive in from Pelabuhan Ratu on a fully paved road that any vehicle can manage, then walk the short flat path past the suspension bridge to the riverbed, where local guides often offer to show you the best spots. The single most important thing to understand is safety, because the vents themselves erupt at scalding temperatures and can cause severe burns, so never wade up to the gushing spouts. Instead find a pocket downstream where the hot and cold water have already blended to a comfortable warmth. Tickets are cheap, bought at a simple gate, but the riverbed terrain is rocky, uneven, and slippery, which makes sturdy waterproof footwear essential and rules the site out for anyone with mobility limits. Come early in the morning or late afternoon to dodge both the intense coastal heat and the weekend crowds, and bring swimwear, a quick-dry towel, and a change of clothes since you will be wading right into the stream. Vendors near the river sell eggs you can boil in the thermal water, a small ritual worth trying once your soak is done.
Mineral chemistry
Sodium chloride springs, essentially natural saltwater baths, are celebrated for their warming and moisturising effects. The salt forms a thin film on the skin that slows moisture evaporation, keeping skin hydrated longer than a freshwater bath.
Those with high blood pressure or heart conditions should consult a doctor before bathing, as the warming effect increases circulation. Avoid immersing open wounds.

Maribaya lies in the cool highlands of Lembang above Bandung, where mild low-sulfur hot springs meet a forested river gorge and waterfalls. The modernized resort combines deep communal pools and premium private cabanas with garden walkways, sky bridges, and viewing decks over the Cikapundung valley. The mountain air stays crisp year round, making the warm water especially welcome.

Fed by the active Tangkuban Perahu volcano, Ciater is one of West Java's most popular hot spring resorts, set among tea plantations on the northern slopes near Bandung. The sulfur-rich water flows through a sprawling network of public and private pools, with warm channels and tiered swimming zones that emit a light sulfurous aroma. It is the most famous and most developed hot spring destination in West Java.

Cipanas sits at the foot of the towering Guntur volcano in Garut, a town long known across West Java as a hot spring retreat.
