About this spring

The water contains highly therapeutic sodium chloride and calcium bicarbonate which is scientifically recognized for its high mineral density. The bathhouse has a simple and functional public design with deep marble pools and separate bathing quarters for men and women. It is best for travelers seeking genuine medical thermal therapy rather than luxury pampering. Bring your own towels and standard bathing gear as the facility functions primarily as a local public utility.

Highlights

High mineral density poolsTraditional separate bathsHistoric Seljuk era site

History

The historic spring has been utilized since the Hittite era but the current municipal bathhouse stands on the direct foundations of a medieval Seljuk madrasah and bath complex constructed in the thirteenth century.

The local municipality executed a comprehensive structural renovation in 1998 to update the plumbing and pool basins while strictly maintaining the historical stone walls and layout.

Local guide

Arriving in central Haymana, you find the bathhouse standing on the same ground as the medieval Seljuk madrasah it grew from, a plain stone building that gives little hint from outside of the mineral-heavy pools within. Inside, the water carries a strong sodium chloride density that leaves a faint salty film on your skin, and the deep marble pools and separate men's and women's quarters make clear this is a functional public bath rather than a resort.

Bring your own towel, soap, and bathing gear, since none are provided or sold on site, and expect a plain, unadorned interior built for therapy rather than comfort. Locals visit regularly for the water's recognized therapeutic effect on joint and skin conditions, so quiet hours are generally early morning on weekdays.

Haymana's town center sits an easy walk from the bath, with simple lokanta restaurants serving home-style Turkish stews and fresh bread, a good way to warm back up after a long soak in the mineral-dense water.

Sodium Chloride (Salt)
Benefits

Sodium chloride springs, essentially natural saltwater baths, are celebrated for their warming and moisturising effects. The salt forms a thin film on the skin that slows moisture evaporation, keeping skin hydrated longer than a freshwater bath.

Note

Those with high blood pressure or heart conditions should consult a doctor before bathing, as the warming effect increases circulation. Avoid immersing open wounds.

Calcium Chloride
Benefits

Calcium chloride springs share the heat-retaining property of sodium chloride springs but with a stronger warming effect. Prized for muscle and joint relief.

Note

The strong warming effect means those with cardiovascular conditions, high blood pressure, or pregnancy should limit soak duration and consult a doctor if in doubt.

Bicarbonate
Benefits

Bicarbonate springs cleanse and soften the skin surface, removing excess sebum without stripping the skin's acid mantle. Traditionally recommended for acne-prone skin and sensitive skin types.

Note

Bicarbonate springs are generally among the most gentle and well-tolerated onsen types.
